Born in 1952, I grew up in rural North Carolina--meaning farmland with the nearest neighbor a mile away. My father worked in a furniture retail store and after 10-hour days, he worked a 3-acre garden, raised cattle, and maintained about ten acres of land with a creek. When working the fields, Dad pulled out a worn handkerchief to wipe/scratch his nose. Dad died last year, and I found at his house a few threadbare handkerchiefs. I brought them home.Although I don't live on a farm, I used the handkerchiefs to wipe my face or nose. The practice became habit. Shortly after, I purchased through Amazon new handkerchiefs, and now keep a fresh one with me daily. I began to notice that few people use handkerchiefs, wiping the nose between thumb and fingers. Then wiping hands on clothing. Curious! Why not wipe the nose on a piece of cloth? Once aware of this practice, you'll notice many people doing this.Think about it. You wipe your nose with fingers, then wipe the dampness on clothing. You may get rid of the moisture but not bacteria. You touch paper at the office, never-cleaned elevator buttons (I now use a knuckle), remote controls, keyboards. Then wet fingers with your tongue to separate pages. By doing so, you put bacteria in your mouth. Ugh!Since using handkerchiefs to touch my face, I've not had a single cold or respiratory infection. Coincidence? There's a reason handkerchiefs were popular in the 1950s, almost mandatory, and people had fewer colds. Although a bit thin, these handkerchiefs are durable and I highly recommend them. Note how people touch their noses then pop snacks into the mouth. Take notice of how many times people touch their noses, then make the sensible decision to purchase these, and use them religiously. The dozen will last for years, making the daily cost a micronic fraction of a penny.
